About Lagniappe

Built in 2023, Lagniappe is a bespoke narrowboat with a story that is as distinctive as its name. Owned by an American couple, the boat was designed around the way they wanted to experience life on the waterways, with a practical mid-galley layout and the ability to step directly from the living space onto the well deck. The name Lagniappe (pronounced lan-yap) comes from Louisiana French, meaning a little something extra, a fitting name for a boat with plenty of character and a strong connection to its owners.

Lagniappe also marked one of our early experiences of fitting an electric propulsion system to a narrowboat. At a time when electric boats were still very much in their early days, the owners specifically asked for electric power. Rather than letting the relative newness of the technology stand in the way, we worked with them to make it happen, incorporating an electric system into the build and gaining valuable experience in an area that was beginning to emerge within the narrowboat industry.

Following its completion, Lagniappe went on to represent Elton Moss as our show boat at Crick Boat Show 2024, where visitors had the opportunity to step aboard and experience the boat for themselves. From its distinctive name and thoughtful layout, to its place in our early experience with electric propulsion, Lagniappe remains a memorable part of our history and a great example of what can happen when an owner's vision leads the way.
